Snowbird Sue Gardner & her husband regularly passed by GKTW without understanding what was beyond its fanciful walls…until her granddaughter, Gia, was afflicted with leukemia at age 3. Gia and her family were welcomed to the Village with the yearning to see princesses and dolphins, and the Gardners were blown away by the wonder of GKTW. “We immediately joined up to help, & have been volunteering ever since; it’s such a pleasure giving back,” adds Sue, whose daughter also had leukemia in 1976 - & is now a grandma & nurse. Now 9, Gia is also in remission & raises cash for children’s cancer charities with her brothers.
